YEC celebrates innovative educators RECOGNIZING CLASSROOM INNOVATION, YEC and the Operation Round Up Trust recently awarded our fifirst annual Bright Idea grants for teachers in York, Clover and Rock Hill school districts. We salute these winners—really, all educators—who brighten our future! YORK: Special education math teacher Sheryl Blanks (right) of York Comprehensive High School won first place with Calculating for Success, boosting student self-esteem with new technology. Jennifer Davis (inset) of Hickory Grove Sharon Elementary School won second with Q-Ball Project, helping youth “find their voice and spark their imaginations,” as Davis says. CLOVER: At Bethel Elementary School, Tammi Carter (left) won first place with Transforming Learning with Creative Classroom Transformations. To engage students, she’ll provide teachers resources to enhance learning environments. At Oakridge Middle School, sixth grade teacher Erica Fielder (inset) won second place with Creating an Appetite for Reading. She’ll challenge kids to “read out of their comfort zone,” she says. ROCK HILL: At South Pointe High School, Chynthia Siddons (right) won first place with Kill- a-What? Her project will highlight energy-related careers and energy consumption, something we at YEC appreciate! In second place, Traci Moore (inset) of Rosewood Elementary School will bring Ozobots in the Art Room, teaching robotics and coding to improve problem- solving and communication skills.
