AS WE END another year, the natural re ex is to re ect on the past. We also look to the future. At York Electric
Cooperative, however, we do this while remaining focused on the here and now.
We know that you look
to your co-op primarily for reliable, affordable electric service. On holidays and every day, YEC does its best to keep
it owing. Reliability is our priority every day, every hour, every minute, indeed, every second.
Nature being what it is, however, we cannot guarantee continuous, uninterrupted electric service. We, however, can guarantee that we will do our best to keep your lights on. It’s no small task.
Tropical storm Irma reminded us of how vulnerable the electric distribution system is. On Monday, September 11, the storm’s high winds downed trees and brought power lines down and broke poles in the process. The damage we suffered was nothing compared to some of our sister cooperatives. They suffered tremendous damage, and it took several days for all the power to be restored.
One of our principles is cooperation among cooperatives. We help other co-ops in their time of need, and they, in turn, extend that service to us,
too. Crews from co-ops in Arkansas, Virginia and North Carolina, as well as crews from eastern South Carolina co-ops, went to help those in the western part of the state. YEC also sent line workers to assist Blue Ridge Electric Cooperative. It’s reassuring to know if a severe storm strikes, a national team of sister cooperatives and line workers stand ready to offer assistance.
As I re ect upon the past year,
I want to recognize the ne group
of employees who serve you every day. They make this organization the tremendous success that it is. They
In the aftermath of Hurricane Irma, York Electric sent linemen on various days to assist sister co-op Blue Ridge Electric get the lights back on. are not only committed and dedicated to this organization, but also to the communities in which they live. They are truly committed to our core values of accountability, integrity, innovation and community commitment. And, our accomplishments this year are
a direct result of their hard work and dedication. With that said, I encourage you to ip to the Co-op News Extra section found in the center of this issue of South Carolina Living magazine to read about your cooperative’s accomplishments.
YEC never falters in serving you, our members, and connecting us all to a higher quality of life. Every day we discuss ways we can better serve our members. You are the top of our priority list, and we care about each and every member of YEC. If you have any suggestions of ways we can improve our service, please let us know. We are always looking out for you!
On behalf of the Board of Trustees and Employees of York Electric Cooperative, I wish each and every one of you a Happy Thanksgiving, a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.
Happy Holidays!
